Notre-Dame Cathedral
Carved from the pink sandstone of the Rouergue, Rodez Notre-Dame Cathedral impresses by its mass and its slender bell tower, nearly eighty-seven metres high. At sunset, the stone takes on magnificent hues. People meet on Place d’Armes, then linger through the old core’s lanes, where mansions and small shops line the way for an unhurried, conversation-friendly stroll.
The Soulages Museum
Designed by Catalan architects RCR, the Soulages Museum, opened in 2014, holds the most important donation made by the artist to his home town. In front of immense black canvases and luminous outrenoirs, conversation flows easily: each person reads something in them. A cultural date that changes from the usual coffee, leaving rich material to share on a terrace afterwards.
Place du Bourg and public garden
Place du Bourg, one of the oldest squares in Rodez, lines up medieval houses and friendly terraces. On Wednesday and Saturday, the market overflows with Aveyron produce: cheeses, charcuterie, aligot and bread. Right next door, the public garden on the edge of town offers a green breather. On Lyad, locals share their routes; it is up to you to find someone to extend the stroll with.
